Endeavor Gallery held a ribbon cutting April 17 Councilman Lupe Diaz and Past President of the Benson/San Pedro Valley Chamber of Commerce held one end of the ribbon as Linda Stacy, President of the San Pedro River Arts Council - Endeavor Gallery took great pride in cutting it. This was quite a symbolic moment when you think about it. The Chamber lending support as a new business opens its door to the community.
If you have never visited the Endeavor Gallery it is truly a must see. Who knew that a small town could have a gallery that possesses such elegance? This gallery has it all, beautiful artwork, original pieces of jewelry at very affordable prices, and a small private conference room that can be rented for events or meetings. The gallery, at 298 E. 4th St. where it intersects with San Pedro Street, is open Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
To those who may be new to the monthly Chamber activities, every third Tuesday is a networking breakfast that is hosted by one of the businesses in Benson. For a nominal fee you receive a great breakfast, need to know information and a guest speaker. This month's host was Judy Lee of the Benson Historical Museum.
Our guest speaker was Cowboy Poet, Baxter Black. His wit is as sharp as ever and it was truly an honor to share the morning with him. He spoke of his love for Benson and what caused him to move here. He chose Benson over all of the places that beckoned him to settle elsewhere. In my words, he had found his sweet spot. The place that he knew was home. He found the place that brought him peace. For all of the things that make living in a small town so beautiful, he encouraged us to cherish it and to reach out to one another and to work together. Words that were like music to my soul. The Chamber's St. Patrick's Day party was held at the Benson Visitor Center where a good time was the order of the evening. Councilman Lupe Diaz welcomed everyone to the Chamber's After Hour Mixer and Office Manager, Najayyah Many Horses filled the role of Mistress of Ceremony. There was the Leprechaun Hat game (you have to see it for yourself) view the video on the Chamber's Facebook page. Unsuspecting contestants were duped into playing a trivia game on the railroads. Lots of laughs, groans and sideways glances were shared during this time.Several prizes were awarded. The City of Benson donated two beautiful gift bags decorated by Kathleen Castillo. Robin Trossle, from the Visitor's Center, also donated her time to insure everything was setup perfectly. Thank you just doesn't seem to be enough.
First in line, Judge Staggs under the guidance of Bob Nilson, receives instructions on how to operate the AAR Control Stand and skillfully guide the model train around the roof-line of the center. All successful operators received bragging rights and a Benson Train Engineer Certificate signed by no other than 'Casey Jones'. |
